GOD IS GOOD, even when...
This is from a good friend of mine and former pastor's wife's notes on Facebook. Thanks Julie for allowing me to post here. It blessed my heart and I'm sure it will bless others!
Have you ever heard the doctor say "I'm sorry. It is biologically impossible for you to concieve." Those words are like a dead weight to the soul. I traveled this journey for many years. You are immediately moved to question what you believe about God - "Is God good." What you have just heard and the understanding that you know God is indeed good (that all things in our lives take place under the banner of His goodness) comes into conflict.
Some of us have experienced the barreness of infertility, while others of us have experienced a barren heart. We have all been touched by barreness at one time or another. Maybe our heart is barren because of longings unfulfilled, dreams unattained, isolation from friends or other disappointing issues we see no light at the end of the tunnel for.
Experiencing any type of barreness causes our beliefs to be sifted and shakes loose any unhealthy concept we have held onto about God to try to make our life and God more manageable and predictable. It is in this times of barreness we understand that God is not predictable and we don't manage God - He manages us and will do His greatest work in us when we take Him out of the "Box" we try to keep Him in.
The barren places in our lives are where we begin to question - "Is God really good", "Does God have my best interest at heart", "am I under the banner of His goodness even in this barren place".
I have come to realize (and this is a continuing process) that whether I am fruitful or barren (physically and/or spiritually), whether I see answered prayers or they seem to fall into silence, whether my body is healed or broken, whether friendships support or depart - GOD's goodness is always there. He may lead me to places I am not familiar or comfortable with and allow me to experience barreness I do not understand, but as the NIV puts it in verse 10 "All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful". So, it comes down to trusting God even in the barreness of life. GOD IS GOOD.
Psalm 25:8-10 (The Message)
8 God is fair and just;
He corrects the misdirected,
Sends them in the right direction.
9 He gives the rejects his hand,
And leads them step-by-step.
10 From now on every road you travel
Will take you to God.
Follow the Covenant signs;
Read the charted directions.
