Hey my bloggin' buddies!  :)  First of all, I am very stoked to announce that today I passed my Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam!!  This marks the end of studying out of necessity and the beginning of a rewarding career that I am passionate about.  I could not have done this without my hubby, my mom, my job (allowing flexibility of scheduling), and my insanely awesome friends & family.  WOO HOO.

Ok on to the no-sew crib skirt redo! :)

You may or not know that we are adopting a baby boy from Oklahoma in November.  Well, I bought the awesome crib bedding before I even knew if it was a boy or girl, so the bedding is gender-neutral for the most part.  However, the crib skirt that came with it was more ruffly and girly than I wanted for little Z.  Plus it was too short for my liking.

So, I decided I would just make my own!  This is quite an undertaking, considering I don't even own a sewing machine, much less know how to sew.  BUT, no fear!  Young House Love is here!  :) Once again, they gave me total inspiration for a no-sew crib skirt.

I got this material from a local fabric store.  Honestly, it wasn't cheap.  But I couldn't find anything else that fit the bill.  It is a white organic cotton in a waffle-weave type design.  I LOVE IT!  I'm going to possibly use the rest for curtains if I have the patience.

First, I measured the height of the crib from the top of the mattress support to the floor, and then added 3-4 inches to that, as YHL directed.  Then I did the same for the length of each side, but I just didn't do the 4th side, since it would be hidden against the wall anyway.

Then I used Heat N Bond to iron on (bought at Walmart) to make the "no-sew" part... just follow the directions.  They're pretty straightforward.
Here's Abby wanting to help! :)

Then I applied industrial-strength velcro cut into little strips to the mattress support frame, put the crib skirt (with all 3 "hemmed" edges) against the velcro-laden mattress support, and then matched up the opposite side of the velcro pieces (the fuzzy side) to the velcro on the mattress support (the rough side).  Next I peeled the adhesive off the fuzzy side velcro and adhered my skirt to the sticky side up.  This required an extra set of eyes (ahem... hubby) to make sure it was lined up.  This was not an exact science, to say the least.  I'm sure there's a more exact way to do it, but I just got a little lazy!  haha! :o)
See what I mean by it not being an exact science??  This piece was too long and I had to cut some of it off...

So... here's the final product!  Whatcha guys think?  I am happy with the results!

  1. awesome! i love YHL too and plan on doing the same thing when my bedding comes in since I prefer a straight skirt instead of the outdated ruffly ones!
