Miraculous Millimeters

OK, so I stole the title of this blog from my mom's facebook status tonight. :) But it's true!

I went back to Dr. Walmer's today for a repeat ultrasound... but let's back up. Because I need to show you how far God has brought us ... so we have to start at the bottom & work our way to the top. Last week, after several weeks of estrogen therapy, we had our endometrial lining (sometimes called the "stripe") measured. It was only 3 millimeters. Very disappointing, seeing as we had been on estrogen for 2 weeks (or more).

Dr. Walmer doubled my estrogen - 2 patches changed every other day! And our repeat ultrasound today showed us that "with God all things are possible". After only one extra week of doubled estrogen doses, my uterine lining measured 8.4 mm!! I think I could have knocked Dr. Walmer out of his chair he looked so amazed! :)

So what's the next step in this very long, patience-building, faith-consuming journey? Well now we are officially candidates for in-vitro fertilization! So I had the IVF labs drawn today, and the roller coaster ride is at the top of the hill! On a ((small)) downside... a minor *bump* in the road... he found a rather large cyst on my left ovary. We can retrieve eggs from that ovary but he wants to maximize our chances of getting the largest number of eggs that we can, so that cyst will be drained in the office next week. A bit nervous about that - so say an extra little prayer since anesthesia will not be administered!

Thank you all for your prayers, positive thoughts, & supportive encouragement. WE NEED IT! Just like our God's love, your encouragement keeps us going. Thank you again! And keep it up! Once again, I want this blog to be more than just an "FYI" for my family & friends. My goal is for these words to be just the stage for God's glory as he works his miracle in us and through us. =)

    I'm so very happy for you guys! The gift of a child is truly a blessing, no matter how exhauting it may be sometimes! :)
    I also want to let you know that reading your post this morning was just what I needed...that little boost of faith and hope we all need as some point. During our own battle with unemployement and following the path to fullfill our calling (children/youth ministry) I have moments where I'm weak....my flesh is weak...so my faith is truely tested. Today is one of those days....I think you know what I mean!? Anyway, you have blessed me today with this blog, so keep it up. You're journey is a blessing to so many-thank you for sharing. My eyes are heavy with the haze of anesthesia as I feel the weight of a warm post-op blanket cover my body. I’m suddenly aware of the pain. And then my eyes shoot open and I slur with a heavy tongue and a raspy voice to my husband there at my bedside in the sterile recovery room, “Is it over?! What did he say?!” There’s a pause and a sigh and I suddenly feel a weight in that moment, you know that heaviness of a moment that you know will change your path from here on out. “Babe, he said there’s nothing he could do…” Hot tears stream down my cheeks and the pain of a surgery meant to pave the path towards bringing life into this world is now a dead end.
