Show Us Your Life - Baby Names

This week at Kelly's Korner's "Show Us Your Life" we are telling our baby names we've picked out.  This is a topic I LOVE to talk about!!  However, I am hesitant to share for 2 reasons - 1) I don't want anyone to steal them.  Really.  I am a little psycho about it. haha  2) They're our names, but everyone always has an opinion on them (good or bad) - my father-in-law does NOT like one of the names we've picked out and he makes sure to tell us ALL the time.  If you don't like the name - GET OVER IT!! :) haha.  It's our baby & therefore our name.

With that disclaimer behind us, let's get to the chosen baby names, shall we??

We would love to have used our family names, as I am very close with my family (and so is Justin) ... BUT our family names are more comedic than useful!!  For example - here is a list of family names that we are NOT going to use.  Beware:  you may laugh!

  • Mermon - Justin's dad's middle name
  • Danny - J's dad's first name
  • Anton - J's grandaddy
  • Betty - J's mom
  • Lenora - J's grandmom
  • Hubert - My & J's grandaddys' names
  • Lida Mae - My granny
  • Leslie - My grandfather
  • Ray - My grandfather's middle
  • Evelyn - My granny - this is too bad, and I really wanted to use it as a middle name but Justin just won't have it!  haha
My dad's name is Will & I like that, but my dad has already threatened me if I use that name - he hates it :)

Soooo, without further ado, and without very much family names to go on, here are the names we've picked out:

Girl:
Laney Campbell - got the name "Laney" from Laney High School in Wilmington where I went to UNCW (my alma mater!) and this is also Michael Jordan's high school!  And I just like the name :)  It rolls off the tongue - "Laney McLamb".  Got the name "Campbell" from the reporter Campbell Brown.

Laney Aniston - My favorite actress of all time is Jennifer Aniston!!!  And it's different.

Other random names we like... Emma... Blythe... Bliss... Grace... Ansleigh... Maddelyn (call her Maddie - but so many people have this one - this is a family name however!)

Boy
Jack - Justin's fav.  We like it for the classic style.
Corbett - My 2nd fav.  This is a family (maiden) name for J's grandmother.  I also just like Corbett for a boy.  Sounds strong!
Emery - We like this one a lot but doesn't sound "strong" to me....
Brady - My fav.  I love it.  Strong and masculine.

The combinations would be:  Jack Corbett, Jack Emery, Corbett Jack, Corbett Finn, Corbett Emery, Brady Jack, Brady Corbett, or Brady Finn

What are your favorite names?  What are your votes for our names?? :)

Comments

  2. Laney Campbell is my fav for a girl...it is cute and different, and your girl should be one of a kind! My nephew's name is Landis (a family name), and he goes by Lanny. We thought we would just use the nickname while he is young, but I know that I will always call him that! He will always be Lanny to me! :o)

Boy: I like Corbett and Brady in either combination, I think.

I love family names, but I know how hard it is when you don't have much to work with. I would love to name a girl after my grandmothers, but their names are Zella, Glady, and Aileen! Yuck, poor ladies! I know they will understand why I won't use their names. I love Eddie's grandma's name, and she was such a wonderful inspiration to his life. She died of cancer shortly before we met, but she was AMAZING...had her master's in education and raised 4 wonderful kids! Her name is Mattie so I will definitely be using that for a girl...if I ever get one! :-(

  3. Whitney, it's funny how if you have the same taste as someone else, they also seem to come up with the same baby names! :) My sister-in-law and I both came up with Ellie but she got to use it first so I definitely wanted her to use it!! :) Thanks!

  4. Ok, I just saw your baby's ultrasound pictures so I figured I better go ahead and put in my two cents about the sweet baby's name since I KNOW you have been waiting for it...Hehe!

Sugar and spice and everything nice: Laney Aniston (I LOVE that this references Jennifer Aniston, she is a-mazing. Her and Reese are my girl crushes.)

Snakes and snails and puppy-dog tails: Jack Emery. A name like that exemplifies respect and "man's man". I am in love with that name!

  5. I love Jack Corbett McLamb....it has a good "ring" to it :) I am so happy for you guys. It just makes my heart so happy to hear news such as this. I will continue to pray for y'all and for that sweet baby boy.
