Ch-ch-changes

We have had quite a few changes going on. I’ll give you a quick version, so try to keep up. 🤣
  • Justin had major ankle surgery. About a mile in to a long trail run, he had a sudden sharp pain in his left ankle. Long story very short, he had a bone chip lodged in his ankle joint along with severe tendinopathies of the ankle joint (thanks for decades of repetitive ankle rolling). On Oct 24, he underwent surgery to repair all this - it’s called micro fracture repair. The tendons were all tightened up and reconstructed, holes were drilled into bones to stimulate a faux cartilage to grow (it’s complicated).  He’s been 100% NON-weight bearing since that time. Not a lot of pain, but simple things like getting in and out of the shower, going up steps into the house, helping with laundry, etc are all much more difficult. I’ve (jokingly of course) said that Justin’s been “useless” to me these last few weeks. Haha!! So helping him get his knee scooter to the jeep with the garage door closed because I’m in a towel only had been the most entertaining thing for our family until recently. 😂 He gets to begin mild weight bearing TODAY with 2 crutches. He is an ultra runner that is used to running a minimum of 30-50 miles a week, so this has been a major blow for him. Overall, he’s been super busy and this has helped to keep his mind off the fact that he can’t do what he loves the most.
  • Knowing that this major surgery was coming up, Justin scurried to try and finish up a big project - built in shelves upstairs. He almost finished, but not quite before the surgery day. They look amazing!
  • My bestie is having a (surprise!) baby, so we threw her a fabulous shower. Can’t wait to meet “strong and courageous” Joshua.
  • We were matched with a birthmom to adopt again! There’s so much to say about that, that the rest of the post will highlight that. 😊
We began the process to add to our family through adoption in the summer. We use Adoption Information Services, if anyone is interested in their program. We went through the process this time quietly, without announcement or telling hardly anyone. We wanted it to be a surprise, but it was soooo hard not to tell! We began telling family and close friends in July/August of our intentions. Of course, they were so excited for us! Our first home study went off without a hitch, and was literally the day after we returned from TransRockies Run (our 120 mile adventure in the Colorado Rockies). I remember being so sore that I could barely sit down to chat with our social worker! haha!

After a few options for birthmoms fell through, we were notified that we were going to be parents for the 2nd time on Nov 16th! I remember waiting by the phone for DAYS, knowing our profile had been shown to a potential birthmom and feeling so strongly that this was "the one." I was seeing patients in the office that Friday, and when they called me I was in a patient room (of course!!)! When I came out, I checked my phone like I had a thousand times that day and saw a missed call from Georgia and I knew right then and there. I called them back but got voicemail. Drats! I called Justin, and got voicemail. Little did I know they had called him next and told him Congratulations! He called me as soon as he hung up and I was standing outside of my office in tears and a huge grin on my face! I immediately called my family and he did too, and it's been ON ever since. Our birthmom is due December 11th, and so any day now we will be headed to Florida to meet our little baby girl if all goes according to plan! We've been so touched by so many people's encouragement and support once again. I've been in a literal whirlwind trying to prepare the house and work for this major change, especially since Justin's not been able to help a whole lot. Somehow, we've made it and are ready for baby when the call comes!  The nursery is kind of a boho chic theme, and I can't wait to share the final result with you all when everything is on the walls. The only thing we still haven't decided on was a name...
