Bridal Registry Must-Haves

And you thought this blog was only going to be about adoption! :) haha.  Sorry if you're disappointed.  But sometimes we do have lives outside of the adoption - if we didn't we'd go crazy!

Anyway, I am a big wedding fanatic.  Like... freak.  HA!  I do love weddings.  And since several of my friends and/or family are going to be getting married in the next few months, I thought I'd do a post on something that is on my mind from time to time.

Married girlies, have you been using an item in your home & thought to yourself, "Self, someone should have told me to register for this!  I didn't know I would use this so much!"  No?  Well I do!  Haha.  So, here's a list of those things that those bridal magazines don't tell you to register for, but are much more essential than juicers and china.  Believe me girls... you REALLY don't need that many towels & washcloths for your guest bathroom!

So here it is, the bridal registry must-haves-but-never-mentioned:
  • A good folding step stool like this one.  I use mine ALL THE TIME.  Maybe it's cause I'm a shorty.  But I'd like to think that I'd use it regardless of my ...ahem, stature.
  • Funnels.  I know, silly, right?  NO!  Really, I use my funnels for pouring left-over grease into a container for throwing away later... I use them for refilling my water bottles from my water filter... I use them for so many things!  Honestly, I got my set of 3 different sizes from the dollar store.
  • A good-sized watering can.  This might not be necessary for everyone, but I like using mine so I don't have to lug out the water hose every single time!
  • Gardening gloves.  You'll go through A LOT of these if you're like us.
  • Yardwork tools:
    • Hedge trimmers
    • shovels (both sharp & flat end)
    • hoe
    • wheel barrow with two wheels on the front.
  • Cooking:
    • A big wok.  I not only use it for stir fry, but cooking anything that requires a larger pan-style cooking container.
    • 2 or 3 medium sauce pans with lids
    • 1 or 2 small sauce pans with lids
    • Frying pan.  Self-explanatory I'm hoping :)
    • Griddle - I use this for making breakfast - can cook pancakes, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns - all on the same cooking surface!  I love mine.
    • A Skillet.  For those nights you want to just let the little hand man cook for you ("Hamburger Helper")
    • Spoon rest.  Save yourself the headache of constantly cleaning the spots where you lay your spoons after stirring.
    • A larger (1 gallon size) tea pitcher.  Forget the cutesy glass ones - they'll break, believe me.
    • A collapsible colander.  Saves space but still pulls the load.
    • Collapsible measuring spoons.  Again - saves space!
    • A set of 3 Pyrex measuring cups, all different sizes.  I love mine.  LOVE.
    • A crock pot - but NOT the biggest one you can find.  You'll never cook that much for just you & your hubby!  Pick one of the smallest ones.  This was my mistake, not once, but twice!!  Grrrr.
  •  Good quality pillows.  Nothing says "newlywed" like matching, fresh pillows that are also comfortable... you'll be using them more than you think ;) haha
So what are some registry must-haves for Brides-To-Be you've thought of??

  1. Wow, good list, Tara! We think alike on so many levels. I love my step stool, but I hardly use it because it is in the laundry room instead of the kitchen. I know, I'm a practical one! Haha! I do love my pampered chef spoon rest and gallon sized pitcher (since I love sweet tea). I have always wanted a wheelbarrow. I used to borrow my neighbors in our first little house when we were newlyweds. Now, Eddie just totes everything to the road for me. Guess that's what hubbies are for, huh? I do wish I would have had a more practical wedding registry, but we did get a lot of practical gifts...especially from our pampered chef wedding shower! ;-)

  3. YAY! I love this post. Thank you so much for sharing it. We haven't even began to think about gift registries (aside from Dustin asking if an "Xbox" is appropriate) so after reading this I feel slightly ahead of the curve. Hah! :) Hope you don't mind if I ask you 1.3 million questions about wedding planning in the upcoming months. We have similar design taste and I know you will give me an honest opinion!
