OKC: The other parts of the trip :)

The flight down to OKC was fine, no problems.  This is the very pretty (but very small Will Rogers Airport)...

We got our rental car in record time.  We knew this was going all too well for our luck with travel... and we confirmed our suspicions when we got to the hotel we booked.  We wanted to try out a hotel with a kitchen and living area that might be good for caring for a newborn for a week (when we return in Nov.).  This was one of the only ones I could find on the Internet.  Needless to say, it was dirty... And it was in a scary part of town... can anyone say "ghetto"???  Yikes!  I actually took pictures of the gross hotel but I'm too lazy to go download them to my mac :)

So we stayed one night and then checked out early & found another hotel, whose room was smaller but much more updated, cleaner, and nicer!  We think this 2nd one will fit the bill nicely when it comes time to take our little man back to the hotel for a week of OK bliss :) ha.  Here's the lobby area & Justin doing what he does best (nose stuck in his iPhone)...

Anyone ever been to Oklahoma?  Or the midwest even?  It's an interesting panorama, that's for sure.  Not like the grassy rolling hills of North Carolina.  It's flat.  And not really grassy.  And in OKC, it's kind of sad too.  Not sure when it happened, but it just looks like the city kind of... gave up.  There are some very pretty {vintagy} sites, like Bricktown (which is downtown)...

And there's the riverwalk or canal in the middle of Bricktown which is beautiful...

Except on either side of the canal in many places, instead of bustling shops and lively restaurants and bars, there's these abandoned warehouses...
It's kind of sad that they don't fix these warehouses up into some loft-style apartments or shopping areas, or something!
And the rest of the city is sprawled out across this prairie land, and all of it is pretty run-down and depressing in a way.  We did get to make a {very quick} visit to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, which was very well done, very spiritual!

When we go back, maybe we'll have time to go to the museum.  OHHHH, that's right... we'll have a newborn in our arms next time we're there! ;)

  2. I love following your blog. It is one of my favorites I wandered upon... My cousins's daughter (yeah I am "up there" ;-) ) just domestically adopted a baby, and she lives in NC.

I am impatiently waiting on siblings from Ethiopia.

Last night I came up with a list of four or five girl and boy names I might consider for their middle names. My gut says to do what many do and give the children American names in the middle (or as a second middle name). Zane is one of the five on my short list. Cute name!
